Tips for a Healthier 2018

How are your New Year’s resolutions coming along? If one of your goals was to start living a healthier lifestyle this year, we applaud you! Resolving to make a fresh effort to be healthier in the new year can come with a long list of to-dos: exercising more, eating healthier, cooking at home more often. This takes dedication and effort, but if you take small steps in the direction of your goals everyday, you’ll soon find yourself with redoubled energy, loving the way you feel and look, and more eager to make small, healthy changes to your daily routine. Here are some starter tips to help make 2018 your healthiest year yet!

Drink water with lemon first thing in the morning
It’s an antioxidant, a diuretic and a cleansing tonic. Starting the day with a glass of water and lemon is both simple and healthy. It helps flush out toxins, boosts your defenses, reduces fat and balances your pH. It’s also a great remedy for regulating your digestion.

Steam More
Did you know that steaming food helps keep far more nutrients? Broccoli, spinach, carrots, asparagus, salmon, clams… you’d be amazed at the range of delicious foods you can steam. Drizzle with a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a dash of vinaigrette or serve as a garnish for a pasta dish.

Soups Without Cream
We all like to add a dash of cream or cheese to a basic vegetable soup to add texture and flavor. But if you’re trying to eat more vegetables and cut down on the calories, it’s best to leave it out. Simply stir in a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil beforehand and liven it up with spices afterwards. You can also try garnishing soups with our Infused Olive Oils to add even more delicious flavor!

Healthy Snacks Between Meals
There’s no point in eating healthy at mealtimes if you stuff yourself with any old junk from the vending machine at work between meals. Try eating a handful of nuts, some fresh fruit or a healthy granola bar as a handy alternative that provides an energy boost. These recipes for Honey Roasted Almonds and Grilled Artichoke Hummus with veggies make for excellent, healthy snacks!
